Posting a Slice

I'm writing this post on my phone, which should be an indication of how my day has gone.
Although I blogged yesterday about my good intentions for the weekend, it hasn't gone quite as planned.

I woke up at 3:00 am wth a searing headache that didn't let up till about 9:30 after a hot shower, and some extra strength Tylenol. Then, off to my son's piano and art classes, back to back. Next stop, the pool but the skies were threatening and the air was cool.

Scratch the pool.

Next stop, the mall to pay some bills and get my son's picture developed for his photography class. Check.

Another stop to pick up some movies at the video store. And, finally we arrived home for dinner and a movie.

Everything's fine even though it didn't start out that way. Then, I went to sit down at my computer and for the last 20 minutes I haven't been able to connect to the internet. Thanks to 3G I can post my slice even if my slice is about having trouble posting.

Tomorrow will be a better day.

Are we listening?

A child sits alone with a ripped worksheet packet on his desk. He appears to be singing or subvocalizing something though no one hears him. Or, perhaps they're ignoring him. The teacher stands at the front of the room teaching on the SmartBoard. The children follow along in their worksheets. Except the child sitting alone. He is in his own world. No one engages him and he engages no one. My heart aches for this child. He is physically and emotionally removed from the class. I ask him why his paper is ripped. (It's not an accidental rip.) He says he did that on a different day. When he had been frustrated about the work. He tells me that he sometimes sits by himself because the work is too hard for him. He later tells me that he sits by himself because the teacher thinks he talks too much during the lesson.  He says he does that because he wants to find out about the "lives of the other children". My first impulse is to rescue him from the wrongheade...
